BOYD
CMSgt James Calvin Boyd, USAF, Ret., devoted husband, father, step-father, grandfather, and step-grandfather entered eternal life on Friday, April 18, 2014 at the age of 83. Jim was preceded in death by his parents Ivey Berry Boyd and Willie Albina Snell. He is survived by his beloved wife of 20 years, Evangeline Boyd; his children Grace Gosnell, Pam Dunnagan (Wayne - deceased), Barbara Mogridge (Richard), and James Boyd; his grandchildren Brittany, Ethan, Katherine, Mitchell, and Maddox; step-daughters Patty (Dan), Linda (Paul), and Elva (Thomas); and step-grandchildren Sarah, Eric, Carrie, Brent, Courtney, Christopher, Meagan, Luca, Nico, and Marina. Jim was born in Greenville, North Carolina in 1931. He graduated from Edwards Military Institute in Salemburg, North Carolina. In 1951 he joined the USAF and spent most of his career working in Electronic Intelligence. During his 30 year, 22 day military career he served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars and completed tours of duty in Japan, Germany, Italy, Philippines, Okinawa, Taiwan, Thailand, and Greece. Jim received numerous commendations during his service, including the Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal with one bronze star, Vietnam Service Medal, AF Outstanding Unit Award with one silver oak leaf cluster and CBT "V" device, and the Bronze Star Medal. He attained the highest enlisted rank in the USAF, Chief Master Sergeant. Jim took great pride in his service to our nation. After retiring from the Air Force in 1981, Jim went on to serve with the US Postal Service for the next 16 years, retiring in 1998. Jim greatly enjoyed his work and made many good friends along his routes in San Antonio and North Carolina. Jim is a former member of St. Vincent De Paul Church in San Antonio and Saint Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church in Raleigh, NC where he was a member of the choir, Lay Eucharistic Minister, and lector. While in NC he volunteered with Habitat for Humanity. Most recently he was a member of St. Brigid Catholic Church and served as a member of their choir and Performing Arts programs. He was also a member of ACTS. Jim was a Fourth Degree Knight of the St. Brigid Council 11596. As a Knight he performed the duties of Financial Secretary from June 2007 to March 2013. Jim enjoyed spending time with Evangeline and family members as well as gardening, woodworking, and volunteering at the parish. Jim will be greatly missed and we know that he is in heaven and his spirit will be with us. Rosary will be held at Mission Park North at 7 PM, Monday, April 28, 2014. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:30 AM, Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at St. Brigid Catholic Church, 6907 Kitchener St., followed by interment with Full Military Honors at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. A luncheon will be held immediately following at St. Brigid Vance Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the St. Vincent de Paul Society or Building for the Future Fund of St. Brigid Catholic Church.
