Joe Gonzales Obituary
Joe Reta Gonzales "Papi" born on November 21, 1953 was called home to be with our Lord on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at the age of 59. He is preceded in death by his beloved grandmother Francisca Reta, parents, Roy M. and Jesusa R. Gonzales, brothers Juan Martinez, Roy Gonzales Jr. and Eutimio Gonzales. Mr. Gonzales is loved and will be greatly missed by his wife of 38 years, Dora Lee Gonzales; children, Francisca Gonzales, Frenchie Garcia, Angel, Susie, Jose Jr. and Christopher Jordan Gonzales; siblings, Carmen Reyna, Mercedes Escobedo, Isabel Ochoa, Cenobio Martinez and Roy Gonzales; 13 grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
In 1970 he enlisted in the Marine Corp. and proudly served his country in the Vietnam War. He was part of many battalions including the infamous "Walking Dead". He was honorably discharged from the military as a Corporal in 1976 and was awarded numerous military decorations, ribbons, & medals most notably including The National Defense Service Medal. Papi spent the rest of his life doing what he loved most; working on cars and with his family. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 23, 2013 from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a Memorial Service at 7 p.m. at Castillo Mission Funeral Home. A procession will depart on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. for a 10:00 a.m. Mass at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Services will conclude following the Mass.
