Retired Army Major Jon
Edward Mitchell of The Woodlands Texas passed away peacefully on May 7th, 2014.
Jon was born in San Antonio, Texas on March 19th, 1946 of Jean E. Mitchell and raised by father Malachy J. Mitchell. He graduated from John Marshall High School and received degrees from National University and the University of Mary Hardin Baylor. He married the (late) Suzanne K. Mitchell in 1968.
Jon proudly served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1986. He served two tours in Vietnam and was awarded 3 Distinguished Flying Crosses, Bronze Star, and holds 16 awards of the Air Medal and the Vietnamese Gallantry Cross with Silver Star.
Jon is survived by his son Jon David Mitchell, daughter in law, Jeni Mitchell, grandchildren Riley Mitchell, Jack Mitchell, and Max Mitchell, sister Pamela Mitchell, and brother Michael Mitchell. He was preceeded in death by his parents, wife Suzanne, and his grandson, Army Cpl. Peter John Courcy.
Jon will be interned at Arlington National Cemetery.
