February 22, 2014

Kirsten Hunter Anderson Nowlin, beloved wife, loving mother and joyous world traveler passed away unexpectantly on February 22, 2014.

Kirsten was born in Chippewa Falls, WI on October 31,1948, to Farrell Baldwin Anderson and Elizabeth Hunter Anderson. She grew up in WI, Florida and Texas and graduated from Cole High School at Fort Sam Houston, TX, May 1966. She started her undergraduate studies at the University of Maryland, Munich, and completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1971 at Trinity University in San Antonio, TX.

On July 25, 1973, Kirsten married Captain Charles F. Nowlin at St Paul's Episcopal church in San Antonio,TX. She happily traveled throughout the world as an Army wife always ready for the next move and new adventures as a business professional, high school teacher and university professor.

Kirsten completed her Master's Degree in Communications in 1977 and was off to Korea with Chuck where she became the first full time American female professor at Hanyang University in Seoul, South Korea teaching conversational english. Her typical semester teaching load often exceeded 500 students. At the same time she was the "first lady" to the men and women of the 201st Assault Helicopter Company at Camp Humphreys, South Korea. Assignments followed in Washington D.C. and Germany where she again served two years as a commander's lady to the Army Aviation Task Force of the Third Armored Division. Returning to Texas on a compassionate reassignment, she and Chuck were blessed on March 1,1993, with the greatest joy of their marriage, their baby daughter Kimberly

Kirsten's love of life was only exceeded by her love of animals. Always the soft heart, our home never lacked for wagging tails or purring kittens, either stateside, or overseas. She was always "picking up" new friends and finding good homes for others. Kirsten will always be remembered for her gentle ways, kind heart, joyous laughter and keen sense of adventure.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Dr. & Mrs. Hobert R. Hunter, MD, of Deland, FL, Mr. Emil Anderson of Reno, NV, Mrs. Ester Anderson of Deland, FL, her mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Anderson, of Deland, FL, father, LTC Farrell B. Anderson and stepmother, LTC Alma Anderson, of San Antonio, TX. Kirsten is survived by her husband LTC Charles F. A graveside service will be held at Ft Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 3:00 PM, Friday, March 21, 2014 followed by a memorial service later this summer, in her favorite place, Hawaii.
