PITTMAN
L. A. Pittman was born to parents Mamie and Lawrence Pittman on June 13, 1925 in Montgomery County, Texas and died June 14, 2014 in San Antonio, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years Verna Lou Pittman and brothers Steve and Clifford. He is survived by his sister, Betty Remus; sister-in-law, Doris Myers; his son, John Pittman; his daughter and son-in-law, Ami and Mike Brown and grandsons Zachary Pittman and J.D. and Christian Brown. L.A. played football for Dayton High School and graduated in 1943. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy Aviation program on July 1, 1943 and received his commission as Ensign in August, 1945. He was discharged from the Navy in June, 1946 after serving in the Naval Air Transport, stationed in Hawaii and Guam. After his discharge he enrolled in Baylor University and received a BBA in 1949. It was while he was at Baylor that he met his future wife, Verna Lou Bissett and married her 2 years later. His love for Verna Lou and for Baylor University were obvious to all who knew him for the rest of his life. After working for Remington Rand Corp. and Allstate Insurance he began working for Frost Bank of San Antonio in 1964, eventually heading the Real Estate and Commercial Lending areas of the bank before retiring in 1988. While at Frost he served in many community related activities including: Board Member of the Baptist Hospital System, Board Member of the Baptist Children's Home, Advisory Board of the Hankamer School of Business, Baylor University. He also taught for many years at the summer sessions of the Southwest Graduate School of Banking at SMU. L.A. became a member of Castle Hills First Baptist Church in 1963 and was a Deacon and a Sunday School teacher and served on various Financial Committees. Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at Porter Loring Chapel on McCullough Ave., followed by a private burial.
