Laura Sergeant Obituary
Laura Christine (Chris) Sergeant passed away quietly on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 in Cathedral City, California. Laura was born in Wichita Falls, Texas, March 11, 1949 to Gwen (Rairdan) and Arthur (Art) Wilson. Laura moved to San Antonio in 1987 with two of her three sons, Dennnis, and Buck Arthur Sergeant, where her father Arthur Wilson had retired. She entered San Antonio Community College to pursue a career in teaching, later transferring to the University of Texas at San Antonio where she graduated and after interning as a teacher at Taft High School, she became the director of special education at Taft. In 2000 she moved back to California to be close to her mother Gwen, who passed away in 2003.
After a short period, she moved to Las Vegas to be near her son Dennis, his wife Marbella (Maudie), and new grandsons, Chandler Julian and Lance Antonio. While in Las Vegas she obtained her Nevada teaching certificate and did substitute teaching. She also was a part-time employee of the Main Library in downtown Las Vegas. Earlier this year, she returned to California to be near her son Buck Arthur, wife Miriam and first granddaughter Brooke Adriana.
Laura will be long-remembered as a kind and cheerful soul by all who knew her, and also remembered as a super loving Mom and Grandma to her three wonderful boys: Guthrie, his son Joey, Dennis, his two boys, and Buck Arthur, his daughter - and many loving cousins, aunts and uncles from coast to coast.
She is survived by her father Arthur Wilson, San Antonio, son Guthrie Terry, Roscommon, Michigan, son Dennis Sergeant, Las Vegas, Nevada, son Buck Arthur Sergeant, Thousand Palms, California, their wives and her much beloved three grandsons and one granddaughter.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 9, 2013, with scattering of Laura's ashes over her beloved ocean at Newport Beach, California.
