Malcolm "Don" McGregor passed away Friday, November 1, 2013; he was 87 years old. He is survived by wife, Roxana McGregor, sons John and Peter McGregor, daughters Ashleigh Collins and Jennalie Lyons, and grandchildren, Sophie and Elise Lyn, Avery and Grinden Collins, and Frances Pearl Lyons. Roberta McGregor is his former wife and mother to his two sons. Born in Ballinger, Texas he enlisted in the Coast Guard at 17 years of age and proudly served in WWII. Following the war he began his Bachelor's degree at the University of Texas at Austin, and spent a summer in Montana working for National Geophysical Company. Don was drawn to the landscape and life of Montana and transferred to the University of Montana shortly before being recalled into service for the Korean War. He returned to Billings, Montana after the war and finished his Bachelor's degree in geology in 1953. Don and Roberta had sons John and Peter there in 1958 and 1960 respectively. A lifelong petroleum geologist, he worked with Phillips Petroleum in 1953, Inexco in 1969, and Tesoro Energy in 1973. In 1977 he opened his own office in San Antonio, and incorporated in 1990 to form Tidemark Petroleum. Don was an active member and leader in the Society of Independent Professional Earth Scientists (SIPES) and the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. He was also a founding board member and president of the Petroleum Club of San Antonio. Don met his wife Roxana through mutual friends and they married on November 8, 1980. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Paul Smith and the staff at Colonial Gardens.
