Martin Hayes Kennedy Jr., died August 21, 2013. He was born January 27, 1931 in Joliet, Illinois, son of the late Martin Hayes Kennedy, Sr. and Mary Louise (Lennon) Kennedy. On April 24th 1953, he married Ann Marie McCoy and they were married for 51 years until her death in 2004. He was also preceded in death by his siblings Mary Frances Kennedy, Daniel L. Kennedy, Sr. and Dr. James R. Kennedy, brother-in-law, Edwin Ryan and two children, Robert Hayes Kennedy and Shannon Marie Kennedy. He is survived by his sister, Helen Kennedy Ryan, his best friend and loving companion, Marlene Bottino Richardson, San Antonio, TX.; Sister in-laws Betsy Kennedy, Michigan City, IN and Ruth Kennedy, Joliet, IL; daughter, Katie Kennedy Schafer (Mike) South Bend, IN; daughter-in-law, Grace Morgan Kennedy, Charlotte, NC; daughter, Libby Kennedy Holt (Pete), Hope Valley, RI; son John Patrick Kennedy (Christin), Gainesville, GA; daughter Mary Kennedy Beebe (Ben), Roswell, GA and Margaret Kennedy Bradley, Pacific Palisades, CA. He is also survived by 16 Grandchildren, Bobby, John and Ann Schafer, Tuck and Hamp Kennedy, Bo and Megan Holt, Erin Ann Moulson, Hayes and Jack Kennedy, Will and Charlie Beebe, and Hayes, Mac, Finn and Jay Bradley. Also many wonderful nieces and nephews survive.
Hayes graduated from Joliet Catholic High School, Joliet, IL, The University of Notre Dame, Class of '52, South Bend, IN, served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy after graduation from ND and got his Masters in Engineering at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, GA.
He moved to Winston-Salem, NC to work for R.J. Reynolds Co. and had a long career in different divisions of R.J. Reynolds, Tobacco, Archer Aluminum and R.J. Reynolds Foods Company, the latter which had the Family moving to New York City/Southport, CT, Cambridge, MD to run the Chung King plant, back to Winston-Salem NC, Walnut Creek, CA, Rochelle, IL.,Charlottesville,VA and after his retirement, back again to Winston-Salem, NC where he resided until he decided to start a Foods Company in Springfield, VT "Vermont Country Foods". He and Ann lived in Chester, VT. until their return to the South and their beloved Winston-Salem again. After Ann's death, Hayes met and fell in love with Marlene Richardson and moved to her hometown of San Antonio, Texas, where her Family welcomed him as their own. The Family would like to thank the Richardson Family for their support and love for our Dad. Mike, Kelly, Doug, Susanne, Dan, Stephanie and Amy and Brent Richardson, children and grandchildren, we appreciate all that you did for our Dad.
He resided at Patriot Heights Senior Living Community, was President of the Homeowners Association, and had many friends.
He was a lifelong Fighting Irish fan and held offices in the Notre Dame and St. Mary's Alumni Associations at the many places they resided.
The family would like to thank Dr. Fernando Lopez and his Family and staff, the Staff at Patriot Heights, Randy Mena, his 'Great Debate' colleagues, and all the wonderful and caring people at the Care/Hospice Center.

A memorial will be held at Patriot Heights at 2 pm on Saturday, August 24, 2013.
There will also be a Mass said in Joliet, IL for Family and Friends and internment will take place at a later date in Fayetteville, NC where he will be buried next to his wife.
