Mike R. Munoz was born in Floresville, TX on January 6, 1944. He graduated from Floresville High School in 1962 and continued on to receive both a bachelor and master of arts in Economics from St Mary's University. Mike was an Assistant Professor of Economics at Northwest Vista College for the past 10 years. Prior to teaching Mike and his wife were Owner/Operators of three McDonald's franchise restaurants. He also held several positions with government as a Counselor for the Veterans Administration, Special Agent in charge of investigating traffic accidents with the Department of Transportation and Bank Examiner with the Federal Home Loan Bank Board. Mike was a Vietnam veteran who served as a Paratrooper in the U.S. Army's 173rd Airborne Brigade and as an Airborne Ranger with the 82nd Airborne Division. Some of his many citations include the Combat Infantry Badge, Silver Star, and 2 Purple Hearts. Mike was ordained in May of 2008 as a Deacon in the Catholic Church. He was a long time parishioner of Mission San Jose Catholic Church where he served as Deacon for more than 5 years. Mike loved the outdoors and enjoyed spending time at his ranch. Some of his hobbies included fishing, golf, flying small aircrafts, and observing nature. Mike went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 17, 2014 at the age of 70 years. He is preceded in death by father, Louis P. Munoz and brother, Louis Munoz, Jr. He is survived by his loving wife, Rosie H. Munoz, son, Mike R. Munoz, Jr. daughter, Linda Munoz Zehr and husband, Wade, his mother, Dora R. Munoz, sisters Adelia Cantu and Irene Carranza, and also his adopted family, William Vasquez and his wife, Helen and their two daughters, Helen and Lizeth. Visitation will be held at Southside Funeral Home on Friday, February 21 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Funeral procession will depart Southside Funeral Home at 10:00 am on Saturday, February 22 for a Mass to be celebrated at 10:30 am at San Jose Mission.
