Oscar Martinez Obituary
SMSGT Oscar Martinez USAF retired, passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2013 at the age of 77 with his family at his side. He was preceded in death by his father, Roque Martinez; mother, Teodora Garcia; stepfather, Jose Garcia; and brothers Isaac V. Martinez, Simon Martinez, and George Martinez. Oscar is survived by his wife, Rita Martinez; daughter, Linda Gutierrez and husband, Jesus; grandson, Rodrigo M. Gutierrez; brothers, Elpidio Martinez, Jesse Garcia; sister, Rosie Gomez and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He began his lifelong love of music playing saxophone in the Lanier H.S. band. After graduating from Lanier, he joined the Air Force and proudly served for 27 years. After retiring, he continued to play music including playing accordion with the St. Brigid's Spanish Choir. He treasured all the many friendships he made throughout his life. Oscar will be remembered for his love of music, his great sense of humor, and most of all, his love of family. Visitation will be at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home on Bandera Road on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 from 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. with a rosary at 7:00 P.M. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 12:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at St. Brigid Catholic Church, 6907 Kitchener Rd with Rev. Stuart Juleen officiating. Interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with U.S. Air force military honors. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.sunsetnwfuneralhome.com
