CERVANTES
Raul "Rudy" Garcia Cervantes, affectionally known as "Pooh Bear", entered into eternal rest on August 7, 2014 at the age of 77. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otilia Cervantes and Antonio Cervantes; brothers, Benito, Valentin, Antonio, Celestino, and Cruz Cervantes, and sisters, Margarita Garcia and Anita Chavez. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Maria Elena "Mary Helen" Cervantes (his childhood sweetheart since the age of 14). He is also survived by his children, Sandra Ann Cervantes, Gloria Ann Contreras (Ron), Raul Rene Cervantes (Shawnee); grandchildren, Melanie Diane and Jonathan Rene Cervantes, Benjamin Joseph Pena (Ana), Jenavie Aguilar, Ciara Renee and Gabriella Lynn Cervantes, Staci Lewis (Brandon); great-granddaughters, Ella Rosa Pena and Anisa Victoria Lewis; father-in-law, Federico Sifuentes; brother-in-law, Gilbert Sifuentes (Luisa); sisters, Dolores Guzy, Lupe Vasquez, and Mary Medina; sisters-in-law, Frances Cervantes and Janie Cervantes; his best friends since elementary, Fidel Garcia (Nelly), Rico Gonzalez (Cindy) and Moses Flores (Adela); numerous nieces, nephews, friends. Rudy attended Pershing Elementary, Emerson Middle School and San Antonio Vocation and Technical High School (Fox Tech). He served in the US Marine Corp from 1954 to 1958. He started his federal firefighting career in September 1961 at Medina Base for the Atomic Energy Commission and from there transferred to Lackland AFB and finally, Ft. Sam Houston where he retired as Assistant Fire Chief from the Ft. Sam Houston Fire Dept. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at 5:30 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church 1114 Willow San Antonio Texas 78208. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at 9:15 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with military honors.
