RIFE
ROBERTA C. RIFE

Roberta Louise Caffarelli Rife, 99, died of natural causes on July 22, 2013. She was born in San Antonio on November 20, 1913 to the late Frank Paul Caffarelli and Bertha Wendt. Roberta graduated from the University of Texas in 1935 and was a strong advocate for providing educational opportunities for her family and helped administer the Caffarelli Trust for Educational Scholarships. Roberta was a loving wife and Mother and devoted to helping others. She spent much of her time volunteering at her Church, various charities and hospitals and it is no surprise that neighbors still maintained a strong contact with her over the years even after they moved away. Roberta and her husband also spent time travelling to places in Europe and China and she loved talking about her experiences and sharing pictures of their travels. She was also an excellent cook and was known particularly for her Reuben sandwiches, peanut brittle, chocolate cake and various cookies which were standard gifts at holiday times and special family and friend events. She also enjoyed needle point and every child received a holiday stocking from "Grandma". She was preceded in death by her husband, Byron Rife Sr., her son, Byron Rife Jr. and her sisters, Camilla and Dorothy. She is survived by her son, Frank and his wife, Lynette of Leverett, Massachusetts; granddaughter, Nicole and her husband, David and their daughter, Zhen of Santa Monica California; her grandsons, Jason of Santa Monica California, Jeremy of Provo, Utah, Jared and his wife, Rachel and their children, Jackson, Madison and Emerson of Harrisburg Pennsylvania and her loving niece, Camilla Parker of San Antonio. She will be fondly remembered for her energy, her humor and a smile that made everyone feel comfortable when she was around. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Porter Loring on McCullough Ave.
