HUBKA
Col. Rudolph James Hubka died on November 24, 2013 in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 96. He was born in Filley, Nebraska on July 18, 1917 and grew up on a nearby farm near the small town of Virginia. Early on, he caught the aura of the Lindbergh fever. With patience and persistence, he proceeded ever toward a flying career. Near the end of WWII he entered the then United States Army Air Corp, which soon became the United States Air Force. His 32 year distinguished career lead him to be known as the "pilots' pilot". He was preceded in death by his parents, O. James Hubka and Mary Ann Chapp and his elder brother, Ralph. Also, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Katherine Ruth Nelson. He is survived by their son, James L. Hubka. Also he is survived by his wife, Mary Young Hubka; David and Lucy Young, Melissa Young, M.D., Laurie Young Guillot and Joseph Guillot and seven grandchildren. In addition, after the fall of Saigon in 1975, Col. Hubka embraced the family of Tran Van Nghiem as his own.
