MENCIO
Samuel J. Mencio, Jr., age 84, of San Antonio passed away on Monday, January 13, 2014. He was born on July 6, 1929 in San Antonio, Texas. Samuel graduated from Burbank High School and attended Trinity University before graduating from Air Force Officer Candidate School. He served in combat during the Korean and Vietnam Wars in the Tactical and Strategic Air Commands. Certain foreign governments recognized his service. After 21 years in the Air Force he retired and began SESO Security Services which he owned and operated for over 20 years. Sam also enjoyed hunting, fishing, music, dancing, inventing, building, reading and being a catalyst for many great conversations. He was a member of the Air Force Society and Rotary Club of San Antonio. He and his family were members of San Francesco Di Paola Catholic Church, aka the Italian Church. Currently, his family attends Prince of Peace Catholic Church of Leon Valley. Sam had a lifelong devotion to St. Francis of Assisi and particular love of animals. Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel J. Mencio, Sr. and Josephine F. O. Mencio and sisters, Elizabeth and Rosemary. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Georgia Mencio; children: daughters, Mary (Maria) Mencio Tripovich, Catherine Mencio James, Victoria Mencio Hajj, Margaret Mencio Oddo, Jennifer Mencio Wolfe; sons, Samuel J. Mencio III and Anthony L. Mencio; 12 grandchildren; step-children, Terry Schott, Karin Kowalik, David Schott, Tommy Schott and Lou Ann Brown. Surviving brother and sisters are Charles Arthur Mencio, Roselle Mencio Huff, Geraldine Mencio Stevens and many loving nieces and nephews along with other extended family. Sam loved his family, his country and will be missed by all.
