Stephen Martin Marlin, 68, from Port Isabel passed away on Monday, June 17th, 2013 in San Antonio. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Hazel and Fleming Lee and his older brother, Jack. He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Stringo Marlin of Port O'Connor, daughter Shannon Marlin of Sacramento, CA (husband, Michael), sons Stephen Austin (wife, Jas) and Forrest (wife, Michelle) of San Antonio, grandsons S. Lucas, Noah, Elijah, Simon and sisters, Penelope Marlin Hanmer (husband, Don) and Ann Marlin Lemon (husband, Don) and noted cousin Ben Franklin (wife, Verleen) of Tilden. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and family members.
Steve was born in 1944 and was a graduate of Port Isabel High School, received his BA from SMU and his master's degree from UTSA. Steve was a Vietnam Veteran in the Marine Corps, receiving two Purple Hearts for his heroic efforts. He retired as an Assistant Vice President from USAA. Steve was an avid storyteller and talented photographer. He loved working on his ranch and spending time with his family. Steve was an inspiration to all who knew him. He always had a smile on his face and a joke on his lips. He was loved dearly and will be missed immensely. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions can be made to Port O'Connor Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 732, Port O'Connor, 77982 or Tilden Volunteer Fire Dept., PO Box 41, Tilden 78072. Visitation will be held at Hurley Funeral Home, Pleasanton, Thursday, June 20, 2013, from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM, with the family receiving friends from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at the Tilden Community Center, Hwy 16S, Tilden, 78072, Friday, June 21, 2013, at 12:00 noon. Interment with military honors will follow in Hilltop Cemetery, Tilden, at 2:00 PM.
