Verner L. Shaw passed away peacefully in San Antonio, Texas from congestive heart failure on July 29, 2014 at the age of 95. The last remaining child of Irwin Lee and Amanda Garland Shaw, In addition to his wife Thelma Patterson Shaw he was preceded in death by his sister Opal Shaw Kuehn Nordloh, brothers Earl, James Ray, and John Shaw. Verner is survived by his son Verner Lee Shaw, Jr. and wife Cheryl, sister-in-law Betty Shaw, nephews Lester "Rusty" and James Ray "Dusty" Kuehn, nieces Linda Shaw Hubbard and Monica Shaw Matthews and by his dear companion of many years, Bobbie Beamon.
Born in Buffalo, Texas, Verner graduated from Centerville High School then enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. This is where he met and married Thelma in Townsville, Australia and where their son, Lee, was born. Following the war, he joined the Civil Service, ultimately serving as Deputy Base Procurement Officer at Lackland AFB, in San Antonio. Retiring after 33 years of dedicated Federal service, Verner and Thelma returned to Buffalo, Texas. Verner played classical guitar, collected coins, graduated with an Associate of Arts degree from San Antonio College, was a Master Mason for more than 60 years and a Noble of the Mystic Shrine of the Karem Shrine Temple in Waco, Texas.
Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Liberty Cemetery near Centerville.
