Willetta Alder Peckham Parish made her transition on November 15, 2013, surrounded by her loving daughters and her wonderful caregiver, Lupita.

Named for her maternal grandparents, Harmon William and Henrietta (Etta) Ferrill, Willetta was born January 13, 1931 in San Antonio to Ollie (Ferrill) Alder and Stanley Alder. Willetta is predeceased by her first husband, Raymond Peckham, who made his transition in 1975 and her second husband, Verne Parish, who made his transition in 2000.

Willetta is survived by her two daughters, Nan (Peckham) Rose of San Antonio and Sharon (Peckham) Slagle of San Jose, California. Willetta was a loving grandmother to Hayley, Garrett, Chloe and (great granddaughter) Julianna Rose of San Antonio, as well as to Caroline (Slagle) Ooley of Portland, Oregon and Shannan Slagle of San Jose, California.

Long a believer in the value of education, Willetta graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1948. She then attended Trinity University and graduated from University of Texas Austin in 1952 with majors in business and secondary education. Willetta received her Masters degree from Trinity in Education in 1962. In 1989 she received her PhD in marriage and family counseling from Texas Woman's University in Denton.

Willetta began her working career in 1951 teaching at Brackenridge High School in San Antonio. When she moved with her family in 1963 to Dayton, Ohio, she worked as a school guidance counselor there, before moving back to Dallas in 1975. In Dallas, Willetta worked as a guidance counselor from 1975 to 1995 at Highland Park High School. From 1995 to 2012, Willetta worked in Verne's business, Gulf Outdoor Advertising.

We would like to thank the Garcia family who took such great care of Willetta over the years and especially during her illness.

A Celebration of Life party is being arranged for family and friends to share their memories of Willetta. There will be no graveside service. Friends and family are invited to sign the guestbook at www.porterloring.com

Because Willetta has a special place in her heart for her animals (including her dogs Buddy, Mimi, and Dickens), in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the:
