1934 ~ 2014 Bobby Ray Chaney passed away peacefully Friday, March 7, 2014. He was born in 1934 in Humphrey, Ark., where he graduated from high school in 1952. Shortly after, he joined the U.S. Navy and in October of the same year, married his high school sweetheart, Betty Lou Martin. They were blessed with 61 years of marriage and family. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Bobby worked for the Santa Fe Railroad in Los Angeles. Bob and Betty eventually moved to Lynwood, Calif., where Bob began to work for the city. Their two children, Michael and Kathy, were raised there. In 1987, Bob and Betty moved to Pismo Beach to be closer to their children and grandchildren.  Bobby worked for the City of Grover Beach before eventually retiring in Pismo. Bobby was a wonderful, kind person. He had so many wonderful friends and neighbors, who will miss him and his great stories!  He loved to share his memories of his days in the Navy and always enjoyed "complaining" about his favorite baseball team, the Angels.  He also loved living in Pismo Beach. Bobby took great pride in his home and could often be seen working on his "projects" to improve the family home and surrounding property.  When asked about vacationing, he would reply, "Why would I want to go anywhere?  I'm already here!"   Bobby is survived by his wife, Betty; children Mike Chaney (Leanne), Kathy Christie (Gordon) and granddaughters Whitney Chaney and Erin Christie. He will also be missed by Abby, his loyal friend and favorite dog ever! He was preceded in death by his grandson, Vance Chaney.  A gathering to celebrate the life of Bobby is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014, at Marshall-Spoo Sunset Funeral Home, 1239 Longbranch in Grover Beach, with a reception to follow at the home of Michael and Leanne Chaney in Arroyo Grande.
