Surrounded by his loving family, Dan Reddell, 66, lost his battle with ALS Tuesday, June 3, 2014. Born in Los Angeles, the Reddell family spent their early years in Porterville, Calif., moving to the Central Coast in 1959. Dan graduated from Coast Union, Cal Poly, earned a Masters degree at UCSB and was accepted in the doctoral program, but chose to join the family construction business. He became a realtor in 1983 and established Bayshore Realty in Morro Bay in 1997. Always an active, outspoken yet respectful community advocate, Dan was honored as the 1987 Citizen of the Year, 1988 Morro Bay Rotarian of the Year, 2013 Living Treasure and 2013 Realtor of the Year. He was active or a board member of the Morro Bay Chamber of Commerce, Morro Bay Grange, Friends of the Fire Department, and Scenic Coast Association of Realtors, while serving as president of Morro Bay's Rotary, Police Foundation, and founder/ president of the Morro Bay Harbor Festival, which named a permanent stage for him in 2013. He fiercely fought to preserve property rights, expand business development and the restoration of Morro Bay historical buildings, including the Caccia Home next door to Bayshore Realty, now the home of the Green Lotus Center. He is survived by his wife, Janne' Reddell; brothers Gene Reddell (Linda) and Dale Reddell (Billie); sister Sheril Viau (Ed); son Matthew Reddell; step-children Donna Gingg and Jacob Cody; grandchildren, Matthew and Brendan Reddell, Arrabella, Gabriella and Ava McDermott, and Samantha and Zachary Gingg. A Memorial Service is scheduled for 3:30 p.m., Friday, June 20, 2014, at the Morro Bay Community Center. In lieu of flowers, Dan campaigned with Si Tennenberg to send more than 12,000 care packages to our soldiers in Afghanistan. He would appreciate a donation of $15.45 for postage to support our troops or a donation to find a cure for ALS at www.alsa.org.
