George Giboney Givens, 83, of Paso Robles, passed away Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013, at home, with his wife and daughter by his side. George was born in Paso Robles, in a home on the corner of 19th and Park in November 1930. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1948, completed his service in 1950 and returned to Paso Robles. George married Celia Mercedes Velasquez on Aug. 19, 1950 - they had been married 63 years. George retired from Texaco, San Ardo Oil Fields after 30 years. Upon retirement, he was actively involved in the charity Loaves and Fishes. George is survived by his wife, Celia; daughter, Carolyn Lori (husband, David); granddaughter Brookann Padilla (husband, Brandon); grandson, Ryan Lori (wife,Donna); great-grandchildren Braden Padilla, Jordan and Jackson Lori. George is also survived by his twin sisters Edith Carroll (husband, Don) and Ella Walton (husband, Gilbert); brother-in-law, Louis Hernandez (wife, Mary); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Givens and Mary Reedy; sister, Rita Berenna (husband, Frank); brother, John Givens (wife, Evelyn); father and mother-in-law Angel Hernandez and Rose; sister-in-law, Eva Loya; brother-in-law, Albert Hernandez (surviving wife, Ramona); and infant daughter, Rose. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 820 Creston Road in Paso Robles, with a reception following. Burial will follow the reception at Paso Robles District Cemetery.
