Karl "Dutch" Afman, 88, of Arroyo Grande passed away peacefully Sunday, April 27, 2014, with family at his side. "Dutch" was born in The Netherlands, on June 29, 1925. He worked for a major furniture retail company and then owned the Quail & Thistle Sweater Shop in Pebble Beach. He enjoyed traveling, sailing, rafting, the beach, singing, and his friends and family. He was always on the go! He volunteered with CASA and A.S.H. and was a member of the Lions, Kiwanis, and Elks Clubs. Dutch is survived by his three children, Gayle, Nicholas, and Julie; two grandsons Nicholas II & Darryl; and siblings, Sies Boeyinga, Alice Nieuwenhuis, and Hank Afman. A celebration of Dutch's life will be held at 3 p.m., May 3, 2014, at The First Presbyterian Church in Grover Beach, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to California CASA Association, 660 13th Street, Suite 300 Oakland, CA 94612.
