William Gene Anselmi "Bill" died in his sleep on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013. Bill was born on January 30, 1944 in San Francisco to Mary and Gino Anselmi. He spent his childhood in San Francisco and Pomona before settling in San Luis Obispo in the 1950's. He graduated from San Luis Obispo High School in 1961 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Bill was very proud of his Navy service. He met and married Annette Long in 1964. They had two children, Mark, born in 1965 and Gina, born in 1969. In 1968, Bill began his career as a Deputy with the SLO County Sheriff's Department that spanned three decades. He was part of a generation of deputies the likes of whom will never be seen again. Bill was at his best when partnered with his closest friend, Bob Sherwood. "Pop" was known for his cars and motorcycles restoring and owning too many to count. For the past 13 years, he was married to Renee Jenkins who shared her sweet grandchildren with him. Bill is survived by Renee and her children, Branden (Sarah) Jenkins and Brenee (Jeff) Staples; his children, Mark (Kim) Anselmi and Gina (Joe) Phillips; grandchildren, Marcus, Eleora & Nolah Jenkins, Ella Staples, Katie and Annamarie Anselmi, Ethan and Isabel Phillips; sister Ginny Baker; and nephews Steven and Michael Baker. A celebration of Bill's life will be planned for the Spring and we can all get together and eat and tell stories.
