Delia Faye McEwan
Nov 4, 1023 - Mar 30, 2014
Resident of Santa Cruz
Delia passed away on Sunday, March 20th, 8 days after suffering a stroke. She was born on November 4, 1923 to Fred and Delia McMullin in Los Angeles, CA, the youngest of three children. She attended Lincoln High School and UCLA, graduating with a degree in Math. Immediately following graduation in 1943 she married George Herbig and in 1949 they moved to Lick Observatory on Mt. Hamilton where their four children were born. After moving to San Jose in 1967, she and George were divorced and Delia spent several years doing substitute teaching, being actively involved with the PTA and attending all of her sons' Little League games. In 1971 she married Raymond McEwan and after several moves settled in Texas. Following his death she moved to Santa Cruz to be close to her children. Delia loved bridge and played with different groups including the Mid County Senior Center for many years. She was a devoted fan of the SF Giants and the 49ers and watched or listened to nearly every game. Delia is survived by her daughter Marilyn (Jim) Wood of Watsonville, sons Larry Herbig recently of Maui, and John and Robert Herbig of Santa Cruz, as well as several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Dr. Massion at Dominican Hospital and Hospice of Santa Cruz for all of their care and concern in Delia's final days. There will be no services and Delia's ashes will be scattered at sea.
