Emmy Louise Duncan Obituary
Emmy Louise Duncan
September 27, 1923 - September 26, 2013
Resident of Soquel

Services will be held on Friday in Santa Cruz for Emmy Duncan who passed away peacefully on September 26, 2013 in Capitola. Born in Providence, Rhode Island, Emmy would have celebrated her 90th birthday on the September 27th. She enlisted in the US Navy during WWII and was very proud of her duties as a WAVE. Emmy met her husband to be, Dale Duncan, while in the service and the couple relocated to Fresno following their military service.
She moved to Santa Cruz 46 years ago and worked as an insurance underwriter, and later as bookkeeper, with a career that spanned over 50 years. Emmy was a devout member of Twin Lakes Church, and she cherished the many friendships that she made there.
Emmy earned her associates degree in art at Cabrillo College, and later attended Bible College, earning a degree in religious studies. A talented artist and writer, many of her beautiful paintings were gifts to her family and friends and will be treasured. Her family and friends will forever remember her "Letters to the Editor" as both her command of the English language and composing style were to be commended.
She is survived by her daughter, Keli Leigh Chikeur of Honolulu, Hawaii, and her sisters; Ginger Wysock of Templeton, CA; and Ursula Cronin of Auburn, Ca. She also leaves her nieces, Carol Olson of Pioneer, CA; and Sue Lind Sheragy of Fresno.
Emmy was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Dale Duncan Sr. in 1995; her son Dale Duncan Jr. in 1980; and her sister Norma Lind in 2011.
She will be laid to rest in a graveside ceremony on Friday, October 4, 2013 at Oakwood Cemetery (3301 Paul Sweet, Road Santa Cruz) beginning at 1 p.m. Rev. Paul Barton of Twin Lakes Church will officiate. Remembrances may be made in Emmy's name to the Cabrillo College Foundation 6500 Soquel Drive, Aptos, CA. 95003 (Check memo-Dale Duncan Memorial Scholarship Fund).
