1927 - 2013
George Frederick Bloesch, 86, a longtime resident of Watsonville and recently of Aptos, went home to be with the Lord Monday, May 20th. George was born January 30th, 1927, in Denver, Colorado to Louis John and Grace Marie (Kennedy) Bloesch. He was raised in Drumright, Oklahoma with his sister and brother graduating from High School there in 1945. George entered the Army following graduation and served in the occupation of Japan attaining the rank of Technical Sergeant. After serving his country, George moved to Watsonville where his family had relocated. George bought farm land on Lakeview Road and raised strawberries and, later, raspberries. He married Mary Helen Swart on June 10th, 1950 and they raised four children together. George went to work for the Watsonville Post Office in 1958 and retired as Postmaster of Aromas in 1992. Following Helen's death in 1985, George married Marjorie Flake who passed away in 2009.
George was an active, dedicated member of the Church of the Nazarene (Wats Naz) for many years serving as Sunday School Teacher, Board Member and lay pastor. He also faithfully served on the Board of the Pajaro Rescue Mission for 36 years. George also supported Nazarene Missions International, Teen Challenge, American Bible Society and Child Evangelism Fellowship.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Louis John and Marie Bloesch, his wife, Helen Bloesch, his second wife, Marjorie Bloesch, and his sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and George Elmer Farmer. He is loved and will be deeply missed by his children, Michael Bloesch of Felton, Ruth (Dick) Powell of Fairfield, Thomas (Terri) Bloesch of Watsonville and Kathy (Paul) Kuhl of Rocklin, California; step-children, Rick Flake of Sacramento and Gale Hill of Oregon; grandchildren, Ryan Bloesch of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Megan (Justin) Penicks, Matthew and Mallory Bloesch of Watsonville, Gracie Montgomery of Rocklin, Westin and Calvin Hill of Oregon; three great-grandchildren; brother, Louis (Trudy) Bloesch, Jr. of Calistoga; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral celebrating George's life and final victory will be held Saturday, May 25th, at the Church of the Nazarene, 710 Green Valley Road, Watsonville at 11:00 in the morning with Reverends Gary Ball and Frank Johnson officiating. Burial at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park, 127 Hecker Pass Road, Watsonville, will be held following the funeral service. Visitation will be held Friday, May 24th, from 2:00 - 8:00 PM at Ave Maria Memorial Chapel, 609 Main Street, Watsonville.
Memorial gifts may be made to any of the charities that were important to George as noted above. The family wishes to recognize the kind and loving care provided to George by the staff at Aegis of Aptos during his five-year residence there and the sensitive care provided by Hospice of Santa Cruz County during his final weeks.
