James Richard Hetherington|
Resident of Freedom
James Richard Hetherington peacefully passed away on January 6, 2014, shortly before his ninety-first birthday.
James, who went by Dick, was born in Pasadena, CA on January 12, 1923. He grew up in Pollock Pines, a town he always fondly remembered and chose for his final resting place. He proudly served in the United States Army as a Communication Sargeant, and was later a member and president of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars. In 1956, Dick made Santa Cruz County his home, where he worked as a plumber for 31 years. He loved to see how things worked and excelled at a variety of other trades, including electric work, carpentry, and auto mechanics.
Dick was an avid football fan, and loved to cheer for the 49ers. He also appreciated the Arts, and when the game was over he might be found watching Opera and Ballet, as well as listening to and collecting all genres of music. A man of few words, when he spoke we all wanted to listen.
Dick is survived by: his sister, Margie; wife, Vera; 6 daughters; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is dearly missed.
A Celebration of Life will take place for family and friends the afternoon of January 19. For details, please contact Anne at (831)240-9545.
