Aug.11,1937 - Aug.27,2013
Resident of Capitola
Jim passed away August 27, 2013 at his home in Capitola, California. He was 76 years old. His daughter, Sonja, was with him when he died.
Jim was born August 11, 1937 to Eunice and Bernard Svee, of Alexandria, Minnesota. He was the oldest of four children. Later, his family moved to St. Cloud, Minnesota, where he spent his boyhood and attended local schools.
Jim joined the U.S. Air Force in 1954 where he became a Loadmaster flying all over the world. He spent six years in the Air Force before returning to Minnesota where he attended vocational school and learned welding.
In 1963, he moved to California and became a member of the Ironworkers Union #377. He worked many welding jobs up and down the coast of California.
In 1977, Jim moved to Santa Cruz and later to Capitola, where he was known to his many friends as "Jimbo." He spent many happy hours at the Capitola Wharf kibitzing with his friends. Strangers whom he had just met became instant friends. Jim always had a ready story to entertain, amuse and sometimes even shock those who "gave a listen."
Jim will be greatly missed by one and all. He is survived by his daughter, Sonja, and his granddaughter, Amanda, both of Santa Cruz. He is also survived by his siblings: his brother Richard (Beth) of Santa Cruz and his brother Jerome (Michelle) of Duluth, Minnesota and his sister Marion (Richard) of Seminole, Florida. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins in Florida and Minnesota.
The family would especially like to thank Jim's devoted caregiver, Jean Dodge, and the staff of the Veterans Administration of Ft. Ord, who gave Jim special assistance.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, September 14th, 2013 at the VFW Hall, 2259 7th Ave., Santa Cruz beginning at 2:00 P.M.
Interment will be private.
