> Marino Rossi Resident of Paradise Marino Rossi passed away January 14, 2013 at Hospice House in Paradise. He was 90 years of age. Marino was born to Casimiro and Alaide Rossi in San Francisco, California on March 18, 1922. Marino attended schools in Pescadero, California where he played soccer in high school. He lived with his parents and brothers in Pescadero at the Cascade Ranch. After leaving the ranch he lived in Santa Cruz and in 1952 he married Margaret Vaninetti and they started their family there. Marino was a mechanic at the ranch. Once leaving the ranch, he worked for Cornell Tractor which eventually became Peterson Tractor. After the tractor company, Marino opened a Firestone repair and retail store and after closing, he went to work for George H. Wilson and then to Granite Construction as a head mechanic. His final job was with Santa Cruz Aggregates until retirement where he and Margaret then moved from Santa Cruz to Paradise. Marino and Margaret purchased a lot in Paradise and built a home. In Santa Cruz and Paradise, Marino was an avid gardener. He loved his fruit trees to the point of having an abundance of fruit he enjoyed sharing with many people. During Marino's younger years, he enjoyed hunting deer and elk, and diving for abalone. In Paradise, he introduced his grandchildren to fishing amongst the many streams in their area. While in Santa Cruz, he and his son, Mark, would pick grapes in the valley for making wine. He continued his winemaking when they moved to Paradise. He loved working in his cellar bottling his wine. Marino was a member of the Italian Catholic Federation, Marconi Club, Elks Lodge, Sons of Italy, Knights of Columbus, Paradise Men's Gardening Club, and a 50-year member of the Operating Engineers Local Union #3. Marino is survived by his wife, Margaret Rossi; children, Marsha (Joe) Marsano of Watsonville, Mark (Linda) Rossi of Capitola, and Marla (Kevin) Meek of Santa Cruz; grandchildren, Joseph Marsano III, Gary (Sara) Rossi, Bryan Rossi, Amanda Rossi, and Stefan Meek as well as numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Casimiro and Alaide Rossi, and brothers, Rudolph Rossi and Gino Rossi. A visitation will be held at Mehl's Colonial Chapel in Watsonville on Saturday, January 19, 2013 from 12-1 p.m. with a chapel service at 1 p.m. and burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Santa Cruz.
