Nancy Bartels, born on March 4, 1946 died on June 8, 2014 in a tragic car accident on her way to church. Samatha leaves behind a large spiritual community, good friends and a loving family, including her husband, Ron Goodman, of 17 years and her son Nicolas Sanchez de Tagle, 31, daughter Teresino Bartels, 29 and beloved dog, Puffers. She is also survived by her brother David Bartels, sister-inlaw Suzanne Bartels, sister Bonnie Penick and her partner Herb Sanchez.
She was born and raised in the Bay Area and received her teaching credential at CalState Hayward. She was a dedicated and caring bilingual elementary school teacher in the Pajaro Unified School District for over 30 years.
Samatha was committed to a path of love, service and remembrance. She found community and support in Al-anon, volunteered for Hospice, CASA and, most recently, was in the process of becoming a Nam Yoga Instructor with the intention of facilitating yoga classes for seniors at nursing homes.
Samatha was an ardent spiritual seeker who found peace in meditation, nature, prayer and discovered an inspiring community at Inner Light Ministries. In her decade plus time at the church she was an enthusiastic choir member, an involved Pracitioner, a workshop teacher/faciitator and leader.
Samatha was a passionate, caring and spirited friend, mother, sister, mentor and wife. She was committed to making the world a better place through kindness, gratitude, generosity and forgiveness. Many have been touched by her open-heart and are celebrating her loving memory.
