William George Potter, 93, of Aptos CA was born on January 13, 1920 and died on December 24, 2013. Bill Potter, son of Miles Potter and Stephanie Casaurang, loving husband of Muriel Potter, passed away on Christmas Eve surrounded by his family.
Bill is survived by his wife Muriel, of 67 years, and his brother Ned Potter of Oak Harbor, Washington, he was proceeded in death by his son-in-law Gary Walls, survived by his daughter Joyce and son-in-law Bob Balaski of Portland, Oregon, son Miles and daughter-in-law Karen Potter of Santa Cruz, and daughter Lori and son-in-law John Jakubowski of Carmel Valley. He is survived by his 11 grandchildren, Eric Walls, Bryan Walls, David Walls, Jagger Potter, Cori Goudge-Ayer, Alex Potter, Willie Potter, and Julian Potter, Stephanie Brooker, Jeffrey Hickey, and Nick Jakubowski, and his five great grandchildren Ashley Walls, Kaitlyn Walls, Townes Potter, Loretta Potter, and Cecilia Potter.
For many years, Bill Potter lived in Palo Alto with his family and worked for Acme Paper Company. At 50, he started a second career in real estate. In 1969, he moved to Aptos and opened the doors to Kendall and Potter Realtors in Aptos. He is regarded as a real estate pioneer of Santa Cruz County, having built Kendall and Potter into a thriving firm. He is a lifetime member of the Rotary Club International of Aptos, was on the Board of Trustees of the Dominican Foundation, and the Board of Directors of Dominican Oaks.
Most important of all, Bill loved his family fiercely and expressed his opinions ferociously. He was a straight talker who enjoyed a good cocktail, a good 49'ers game, and a good symphony. While a gregarious and ambitious businessman, he also enjoyed the solitude and peace of his beautiful Japanese garden, pruning his Bonsai collection. What he truly enjoyed most, however, was spending time with his wife Muriel, and his children and grandchildren, all of whom filled him with the utmost pride. His family and friends will never forget his big blue eyes, his quick wit and his ability to make you feel loved and teased at the same time. Bill will truly be missed.
Services will be held this Friday, December 27, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Capitola at 2 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in Bill Potter's honor to the Dominican Hospital Foundation, Hospice of Monterey County, and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Capitola.
