Wilmer G. Hays

He was a humble man who never sought to be the center of attention.
Wilmer (Wil) Gordon Hays passed away peacefully in his sleep in his Colorado Springs, CO home on July 15, 2013 at the age of 90. His son, David L. Hays was in attendance.
Wil's wife of 66 years predeceased him by 1 1/2 years. He is survived by his son, David L. Hays of Colorado Springs, his daughter, Cheryl Hays of Tracy, CA, his granddaughter, Janeen Bond of Boulder Creek, CA, his great-grandsons, Christopher, Conner and Tyler Bond of Boulder Creek, CA. He is also survived by his sister, Virginia Truitt of Lamar, CA.
He attended Colorado Springs Business School before entering the military service during
World War II
where he served as a cook aboard the Queen Elizabeth ship. He continued his career as a chef in his own cafe, "Wil's Cafe," and later cooked at the prestigious Garden of the Gods Club. He completed his career as a dietary technician at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz, CA.
Wil enjoyed his retirement. He traveled to Bridge tournaments throughout California, Colorado, Nevada and Hawaii honing his skills and ultimately became a Bridge Life Master in 1996.
A memorial service will be held this Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Calvary United Methodist Church, 4210 Austin Bluffs Pkwy, Colorado Springs, CO 80918.
Memorial donations may be made in Wil's name to La Puente, Inc., an organization important to Wil and Louise.
