ARTHUR JENNINGS BAKER, JR. Art was born December 28, 1924 to Mae Inez and A. J. Baker, Sr. in Dodge City, Kansas. He expired July 15, 2014 at his home in Tesuque after a lengthy illness. In 1940 the family moved to Albuquerque where he finished his junior and senior years of schooling. Art was drafted into the Army Infantry 104th Timber Wolf Division in 1943. He landed on Utah Beach and served in France, Belgium, Germany, and Holland. Art was in a Jeep accident, in which he broke his right shoulder and was honorably discharged as a Disabled American Vet. He attended The University of New Mexico after he was discharged from the Army. Art's wife Louise, his parent, one brother John E., daughter Trudy Sanchez, and granddaughter Denise Sanchez preceded him in death. He is survived by his loving wife Margaret; son John A and loving wife Lenore; grandson Ian; granddaughter, Paula Henderson, step-daughter, Kathy Hammond and her family, step-son, Kenneth Klaer and his family He managed the restaurant in Bandelier National Park and later owned and operated the La Placita and the La Cocina Restaurants in Santa Fe. After twenty-five years, he retired from the restaurant business and worked in the U. S. Post Office. He retired from the Post Office in 1985 after twenty years of service, which included his three years of Army service. Art belonged to the Masons, the Scottish Rites, the Shiners, the VFW, DAV, and American Legion. He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, where he and Margaret met, and both served many years as volunteers. He also helped in the St. John's Baptist Church soup kitchen. Art was a very generous and fun-loving person who never knew a stranger. Everyone loved him and he deeply and sincerely loved everybody. He was always ready to help in any situation; no job was too big for him. Art's family and scores of best friends, to quote him, "my forever friends" will sorely miss him. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 22, at 11:30 a.m. at St. John's United Methodist Church where a funeral service will take place at 12:30 p.m. Burial will be on Tuesday, July 22, at 2:15 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
