ELIZABETH BURRITT FRANK (Betty) was born in Rockford, IL on October 23, 1921 to Frank Clinton and Bessie Schmaeling Burritt. Betty attended college, initially at Lawrence College in Appleton, WI, where she joined Delta Gamma Sorority, but transferred in her sophomore year to the University of Illinois, where she majored in English and met her husband, Robert Loeffler Frank, a professor of Organic Chemistry, originally from Milwaukee, WI. Betty bragged how she got her "PhD" before her B.A.! Betty and Bob Frank were married on October 16, 1943 and resided in Urbana IL, where their two daughters were born. Margaret Ellen in 1946 and Nancy Burritt in 1949. Bob quit teaching to work for the Morton Salt Co, heading up the Research Laboratory in Woodstock, IL. The family moved to Lake Geneva, WI where they were very active in the Lake Geneva Yacht Club. Betty was also active in the Lake Geneva Garden Club and the sewing club. Her home was adorned with her many needlepoint, petit point and knitting projects. In 1988, Bob and Betty left the icy Wisconsin winters to reside in milder Asheville, NC, where Bob died in March of 1996. After her husband passed away, Betty continued to enjoy international travel. Bob traveled extensively on business to Europe and often Betty accompanied him, in the days when one dressed in white gloves and hat to fly on an airplane. Later she traveled with her daughter Nancy, her sister Barbara and her friend Dorothy Morrison to destinations such as Russia, India and Nepal, the Amazon River in Peru, and her two favorite trips, the canals of France and on safari in Africa. Betty lived in Asheville, NC for 15 years and then adventurously moved across the country at the age of 82 to Santa Fe, NM. Her friends and neighbors there remember her as a role model; classy, always coiffed and beautifully dressed, and an ever gracious hostess. She knew how to be a good friend. Elegant and beautiful, Betty Frank was the example of a time gone by. She is terribly missed by her daughters, Nancy B. Frank and Marnie Jacobsen, her son in law Gary "Jake" Jacobsen, her granddaughter, Jessica Jacobsen Tidswell her grandson, Benjamin Burritt Jacobsen, and her great grandchildren, Elias and Isabella Jacobsen. Elizabeth Burritt Frank died on November 14, 2013 at the age of 92 in Montrose CO. Interment will be in the Forest Home Cemetery in Milwaukee, WI at the convenience of the family.
