RICHARD DICKY ORTIZ Richard "Dicky" Ortiz died peacefully at home on July 26, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 22, 1931 to Valentina and Preciliano Ortiz. Dicky attended St. Michael's from grade school through college receiving his bachelor's degree in education with a minor in Spanish. He also served in the Army National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1952. He and his sister Betty helped with the family business, Percy's Grocery on Canyon Road for many years. Dicky retired from the Santa Fe Public Schools after 32 years of teaching and holding various administrative positions. Dicky was an active member of the Elks Lodge for many years and looked forward to selling CP raffle tickets on the plaza and organizing his famous steak fry's. Dicky is preceded in death by his parents Val and Percy Ortiz. He is survived by his loving wife of over 56 years, Rosina, their four children: Lawrence, Lisa, Martin (Carol) and Marc (Dan) and three grandchildren: Jerome, Rita and Kiera. He is also survived by his sister Betty and husband Max Rivera and brother-in-law Henry Gallegos and wife Bobbi as well as two special aunts, Rosina Clayton and Helen Ortiz and many cousins, nieces and nephews. All services will be held at The Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi. A rosary will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. with the funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. and service at the National Cemetery at 12:45 p.m. Honorary pallbearers are: Daniel Gutierrez, Lawrence Ortiz, Martin Ortiz and Marc Ortiz. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Albuquerque Trade Center, 3540 Pan American Freeway NE, Suite F, Albuquerque, NM 87107.
