Chaplain Andrew Lane Miles, Sr. - LYONS - Chaplain Andrew Lane Miles, Sr. Retired, age 88 of Lyons died Wednesday, December 04, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. He attended ABAC in Tifton, GA. He was a native of Candler County and graduated from Metter High School in 1944. Afterwards, he graduated from the University of Georgia and the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary with a Masters of Divinity Degree. He has lived in Lyons since 1965. He was a United States Navy Veteran, aboard the LSM 450 until the war ended in 1945. He was ordained to the Baptist Ministry in 1953 and pastored Broad Street Baptist in Hawkinsville, Britt David Baptist in Columbus, and Cool Springs Baptist Church. He served as Clinical Chaplain with the Georgia Baptist Convention and the Georgia Department of Corrections for thirty years before retiring in 1989. He was a charter member of the Oaks Baptist Church in Lyons. Mr. Miles, Sr. is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Goolene Kent Miles of Lyons; one daughter, Melisha Gilreath and husband Ron of Roswell; one son, Andrew L. Miles, Jr. and wife Charlotte of Claxton; five brothers, James Miles and Bobby Miles both of Tifton, Hubert Miles of Pulaski, Billy P. Miles of Flintstone, and Harold Miles of Augusta; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The funeral service will held Saturday, December 7th at 10:00 am in The Oaks Baptist Church in Lyons with Reverend Josh Hughes officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Metter. The family will receive friends at The Oaks Baptist Church on Friday evening from 5:00 until 7:00.
