Ret. Major Edgar Leon Alex Alexander - MIDWAY - Ret. Major Edgar Leon Alex Alexander, 77, died from Kidney Cancer Tuesday, July 9, 2013. Alex was born in 1936 to the late Gene and Hazel Alexander at their home near Granger, Missouri. The Alexander's moved to Mt. Sterling, Iowa during Alex's 8th month of first grade. School was completed in Keosauqua, Iowa where he graduated in 1954. Alex earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Education, a Master's Degree in Social Work and a Master's Degree in Business. He held several full time and part time jobs, up until his death, most notably retiring as a Major from the United States Army. Alex was preceded in death by his oldest son, Russell Alexander, who died in October of 2009 from Lung Cancer. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. Survivors: Alex will be missed by his most devoted and loving wife, whom he loved dearly, Carolyn of Midway: daughter and son in law Leona (Dean) Martin of Richmond, Virginia; son and daughter in law Wythe (Barbara) Alexander of Hinesville; daughter in law Terri Alexander, surviving wife of Russell of Washington State; five grandchildren, the oldest in College in Washington State. Visitation will held one hour prior to the service at the church. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 13, at 11:00 am at Midway United Methodist Church with Rev. Dan Pegram and Brenda Crawford officiating. Burial will be at the Georgia Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Glennville with full military honors being rendered.
