Francis van Gigch - DELRAY BEACH, FL - Francis van Gigch, of Delray Beach, passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 of complications related to a Parkinson-type disease. He is survived by his wife Jane, nee White, of 52 years and three children, Nicholas and wife Susan van Gigch of Athens, Georgia, Alexandra van Gigch Mores and husband Walter of Parkland, Florida, and Natalie van Gigch Gudas and husband Timothy of Concord, New Hampshire. Also surviving, are grandchildren Jordan, Jacob, Ben and Caleb Mores and Matthew, Sarah and Chloe Gudas. Francis was born in 1933 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He attended the French School of Buenos Aires, received Bachelor's degree from the University of Buenos and both a Masters and Ph.D from Michigan State University in Agricultural Economics. He spent most of his professional life working for the World Bank as an economist. His last post was as Chief of Mission of the Bank in Dhaka, Bangladesh with the rank of Ambassador. After retirement, he lived fifteen years in Savannah, Georgia where he became the Diocesan representative to the Episcopal Relief and Development. He also played USTA tennis at the local, state, regional and national level. On the tennis court, he was known as both a keen competitor and true gentleman. After moving to Florida he competed briefly until illness prevented his playing. He also tutored students in French and Spanish at Paul's Place an after school program for at risk students. Friends may call on Friday, April 5, 2013 from 5PM to 8PM at the Lorne and Sons Funeral Home, 745 NE 6th Avenue (N. Fed Hwy), Delray Beach. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2013, at 11:00 AM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 188 S. Swinton Avenue, Delray Beach, FL 33444.
