George E. Kandel, M.D. - LONE TREE, CO - George E. Kandel, M.D.,[Colonel, USAF Ret.] died on June 26 in Lone Tree, Colorado. George was born in Savannah on April 11, 1932, the son of Dr. Harry M. and Estelle E. Kandel. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nancy, of Lone Tree and his children, George, Jr., Beth, Doug, and Suzanne and grandchildren Brittany, Allyson, Lindsey, Tyler, Sarah, Spencer, Lexie, and Olivia. Sons-in-law Mark Hebner and Mark Metheny, daughter-in-law Rita Kandel and sisters, Joanne K. Leaf and Phillippa K. Paddison [Bob] also survive him. George was a graduate of Savannah High School, the University of Georgia, Medical College of Georgia and Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. He served as a physician, Flight Surgeon, pilot, and Hospital Administrator while in the Air Force. After his retirement from the military he was in private practice and then joined Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Colorado as Medical Director. The funeral service was held July 2 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Centennial, Colorado and the military burial was at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver on July 3.
