James William Walker Jimmy - SAVANNAH - James William Walker Jimmy, 75, passed away Saturday, December 8, 2012 suddenly at Candler Hospital. Mr. Walker was born on June 12, 1937 in Savannah, GA, the son of the late James William Walker, Sr., and Jennie Grimes Walker. He was a 1955 graduate of Commercial High School and immediately following served in the United States Marine Corp. He began his civilian career as a printer with reputable newspapers such as, Savannah Morning News, The Atlanta Constitution, The Chicago Tribune, and The New York Times. Later, after moving to Florida, he owned Tampa Drywall and was affiliated with Sunshine State Drywall until his retirement in 2010. He was very patriotic. He was an active member of the Republican National Committee, The Heritage Foundation, The NRA, and The American Legion. He was a dedicated member of the Savannah St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee. He enjoyed all that was involved in celebrating St. Patrick's Day. He was proud of his family and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Mr. Walker was a true southern gentleman who had a wonderful sense of humor and he always enjoyed a good laugh and a party. Mr. Walker is survived by his wife, Winnie Walker; daughter, Robin Walker Steed and husband, John; daughter, Jill Walker; son, James William Walker, III Jay; granddaughters, Caitlin and Caroline Steed; brothers, Robert Walker and wife Iris, Richard Walker and wife Nancy, Ronald Walker and wife Katie; sister, Patricia Waters and husband George as well as many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. The family will be receiving friends from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
