JoAn Thomason Kent - SAVANNAH - JoAn Thomason Kent, 78, of Savannah, Ga. passed away Friday July 26, 2013 at Savannah Beach Nursing Home, Savannah Beach, Ga. JoAn was born in Dekalb County Georgia July 29, 1934 and has been a resident of Savannah since 2000. Her life was devoted to service. She attended The University of Georgia on a 4year Rotary Scholarship 1951-55 where she met her husband Ronald and married at First Methodist Church Athens, GA. in 1955. While there she worked for the Girl Scout Council and was president of Women's Student Government and the Baptist Student Union. In Birmingham, AL. she was the first Executive Director of the Campfire program for 12 years. Then she was a house restoration contractor until moving to Houston, TX. in 1982. She was an independent fund raiser until 1985 when she founded and directed the Houston Scottish Heritage Foundation until 1990. Then she had a head injury from an auto accident and was cared for by her husband for 16 years followed by 6 years in nursing homes. She had a remarkable life with a facility for leading others to accomplish many benefits for the communities she lived and worked in. Survivors include her son Paul C. Kent II, his wife Wei and granddaughters Enya and Ronne, Chantelly, VA.; daughter, Allie T. Kent, Hollywood, CA. and brother Allen Thomason, Dallas, GA.
