Mrs. Margaret Hodges Holloway Latzak - TYBEE ISLAND/STATESBORO - Mrs. Margaret Hodges Holloway Latzak, age 95, died Friday evening at her family home in Bulloch County following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Thomas C. Latzak of Tybee Island and the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred W. Hodges of Bulloch County. A Bulloch County native, Margaret graduated from Brooklet High School in 1935. She later graduated from the University of Georgia where she received her Bachelor of Science in Home Economics and Masters in Education degrees. Margaret taught Home Economics in Bulloch County schools and Berry College prior to teaching at Commercial and Groves High Schools in Chatham County. Mrs. Hodges was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church in Bulloch County and also attended the Tybee United Methodist Church where she was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was an active member and volunteer of several Tybee organizations and clubs, including, Tybee Historical Society, the Sierra Club, the Tybee Lighthouse and the Tuesday Night Supper Club. Her educational organizations included the Georgia Retired Educators Association and the Chatham Retired Educators Association. She was preceded in death by her first husband, PFC William G. Holloway in 1944; her husband of 42 years, Thomas C. Latzak; her brother, Fred W. Hodges, Jr. and brother-in-law, Aubrey Prosser. Surviving are a sister, Alice H. Prosser of Statesboro; her sister-in-law, Betty Tillman Hodges of Statesboro; a cousin Nona Hodges Foster of Statesboro; four nieces, Alice Rebecca Spangler of Summerville, SC, Susan Lee of Tyrone, Ga. , Diane Allen and Bettye T. Hodges both of Statesboro; three nephews, Robert Prosser of Ft. Valley, Ga., Wight Hodges and John T. Hodges both of Statesboro; six great nieces and eight great nephews. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1:00pm until 2:00pm at New Hope United Methodist Church. A graveside service will immediately follow the visitation at the Hodges Family Cemetery with Rev. Stephanie Smith officiating. Pallbearers will be Eli Hodges, A.J. Prosser, Harrison Lee, Hunter Lee, Shane Allen, Colton Hodges, James Hodges and Ian Hodges. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the New Hope United Methodist Church, 9559 Hwy 24, Statesboro, Ga. 30461, Hospice Savannah, 13190 Savannah, Ga. 31416 or the donor's local chapter of the Humane Society.
