Margaret Peggy Gordon Seiler - RICHMOND, VA - Margaret Peggy Gordon Seiler, 90, died peacefully at home at Westminster Canterbury in Richmond, Virginia, on July 6. Born in Savannah, Peggy was the daughter of George Arthur Gordon of Savannah and Margaret McGuire Gordon of Richmond. She was a granddaughter of Dr. Hunter H. McGuire, a founder of the Medical College of Virginia, and a niece of Juliette Gordon Low, founder of the Girl Scouts of America. She attended the Pape School in Savannah, St. Catherine's School in Richmond, and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Sweet Briar College before serving in the Women's Army Corps in 1944-45. After the war she taught English at the Savannah branch of the University of Georgia and, in 1951, graduated from the University of Virginia Law School. She was the first female staff member of the Virginia Law Review. Peggy began her legal career in the Washington, DC, office of Cleary Gottlieb and ended it as an associate at McGuire, Woods & Battle in Richmond. In the mid-1960s, when Peggy and her family lived in the Philippines, she taught English at the American School in Manila. In New Jersey in the 1970s, Peggy served as legal counsel to the NJ Commission on Children and Youth and was an editor at Prentice Hall legal publishers. She was a founder of the Richmond Friends of the Library, a former member of the Richmond Junior League, and a parishioner at St. Paul's Episcopal Church and St. James Episcopal Church in Richmond. She is survived by her beloved husband of over 60 years, the Rev. Robert S. Seiler, and their children, Robert S. (Robin) Seiler, Jr., Margaret M. Seiler, and Louise G. Seiler; daughter-in-law Lisa Seiler and son-in-law Hovey Brock; grandchildren Diana and Robbie Seiler and Livia and Lucy Brock; and many nieces and nephews. Peggy will be remembered for her intellect and as a devoted wife, mother, aunt, and friend. A funeral service will be held at St. James Church, 1205 W. Franklin St., Richmond, Va., Friday, July 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m., reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace, in which Peggy grew up, at 10 East Oglethorpe Ave, Savannah 31401.
