Earl Isaac Adams, 87, of Lykens, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday at home.

Born Oct. 19, 1926, in Joliett, he was a son of the late Isaac and Estella Kuntzleman Adams.

He was a 1944 graduate of Porter Township High School, Reinerton, and served as class treasurer.

Earl was a graduate of Muhlenberg College, Class of 1950, where he received his bachelor's degree in biology and history. He earned his master's degree in education at Bucknell University and began his teaching career at Porter Township High School, where he taught for 12 years.

He retired after 27 years as a respected and well-liked teacher, head of the Social Studies Department at Upper Dauphin Area High School, Elizabethville. He was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity.

He was a proud veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy, Intelligence Unit, stationed at Pearl Harbor, and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 2385, Gratz.

Earl was a member of Immanuel Methodist Church, Loyalton, serving as trustee. He religiously delivered the donated groceries to the Upper Dauphin Human Services, where he served on the board for many years.

He was a 50-year member of Ashlar Lodge, 570 F&AM, Lykens, a 50-year member of Harrisburg Consistory, Zembo Shrine, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Millersburg Forest No. 125, a member of the Glen Chapter No. 425 and Order of the Eastern Star, Lykens.

He will be remembered for his sense of humor and will be missed not only by his family, but also his coffee buddies at the gas station and the many students whose lives he touched and influenced in his 39 years of teaching.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Bruce C. Adams, Esq.

A loving and devoted husband and father, he is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara Harman Adams, whom he married June 10, 1961; his dear daughter, Pamela Adams-Campbell, Harrisburg, and her husband, Brian, and two grandsons, Bruce and Clark, whom he adored. He was a loyal brother to his sister, Ethel Adams Russell, Lebanon, and a special uncle to his four nieces.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Calvary United Methodist Church, Pottsville Street, Wiconisco, with the Rev. David McElwee and the Rev. Barbara Yorks. Interment with full military honors will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Elizabethville. A viewing will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday from the Chapel of the Dimon Funeral Homes Inc., Tower City, and from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday prior to services at the church in Wiconisco. Masonic services will be held at 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, followed by Eastern Star services by the Glen Chapter No. 425. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Earl I.
