Joseph A. "Joe Boly" Alshon, 80, of Frackville, went to be with his Lord in Heaven on Monday at his residence with his wife, Eve, and family by his side.
Born in Shenandoah, Jan. 14, 1933, he was a son of the late Boly and Vera Kerewich Alshon.
He was a graduate of West Mahanoy Township High School, Class of 1950. He continued his education by attending numerous night courses at Penn State Schuylkill Campus and received an associate degree from Purdue University.
He served in the Army during the Korean War and attained the rank of corporal.
Joseph returned from the service and began his career for more than 34 years as owner and operator of the former Boly's Iron Works, Shenandoah, until his retirement in 1995.
He was able to travel all over the world and experience many cultures. He was an avid scuba diver and belonged to the Hazleton Scuba Diving Club and the Hazleton Ski Club.
Joseph was a member of Annunciation BVM Catholic Church, American Legion Post 398, life member of the Rev. James A. Hogan Knights of Columbus Council No. 2580 and BPO Elks Lodge No. 1533, all of Frackville. He was a member of the VFW Post, Shenandoah, the Lions Club, Frackville, past president of Monarch Association, member of the Travelers Protective Association, Post Q, Mahanoy City, the Pottsville Club, Manufacturers Association of Schuylkill County and the Park Crest Fish and Game Protective Association, Brandonville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his sister, Joanne Filipos.
Joseph is survived by his wife of 58 years, Eve Semanchick Alshon; daughter, Mary-Jo Jones, Frackville, and her children, Eva Marie Jones and Christina Accardi; son, Dr. Joseph Alshon and his wife, Nina, Boca Raton, Fla., and their children, Tyler, Paige, Christian and Timothy Alshon; son, Eugene Alshon, Pueblo, Colo., and children, Ryan and Trevor Alshon; son, Mark Alshon and his wife, Carolina, Parkside; and son, Steven Alshon and his wife, Tina, Minersville, and their daughter, Savanna Alshon; great-grandchildren, Blake, Kenneth, Faith and Elijah; nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Annunciation BVM Catholic Church, Frackville, with Monsignor Anthony Wassel as celebrant. Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the church and again from 9 a.m. until time of Mass on Saturday. Interment with military honors will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, at the convenience of the family.
