Leon Hiester Eshelman, 77, of 836 Chestnut St., Hegins, passed away Oct. 4 at home.
Born Nov. 27, 1935, in Hegins, he was a son of the late W. Eugene and Tillie Geist Eshelman.
He graduated from Hegins Township High School and Penn State University with a bachelor's degree in agriculture economics.
He served in the Army as the head of the commissary at Fort Drum, New York.
He was a retired business owner, having operated Twin Valley Farmers Exchange for 54 years.
Leon was a member of Friedens United Church of Christ, Hegins. He was also a member of Friedens Fellowship choir and served on various committees. His favorite hobby was organizing Community Day to support Re-Creation's service with hospitalized veterans.
Surviving are his wife, Valeria Gable Eshelman, to whom he was married for 54 years; two daughters, Jennifer Eshelman Shaffer and her husband, Lee, Denver, and Pamela Eshelman Schwalm and her husband, Scott, Hegins; two sons, Glen Eshelman and his wife, Dr. Heather Thieme, York, and Gary Eshelman and his wife, Michelle, Hegins; nine grandchildren; and a sister, Lois Graham and her husband, Kenneth, Hegins.
Private interment was made in Fountain Community Cemetery. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Friedens United Church of Christ, Hegins, with the Rev. Michael Klahr officiating. There will be no visitation prior to the service. Memorial contributions can be made to Friedens UCC Church, P.O. Box 57, Hegins, PA 17938.
