Ronald Arthur Kriner, 77, of Pottsville, passed away Wednesday at St. Luke's Hospital, Bethlehem, surrounded by his beloved wife and children.

Born in Pottsville, Oct. 20, 1935, he was a son of the late Norman E. and Felicia Zucofski Kriner.

Ron was a 1953 graduate of Pottsville High School and earned his degree in engineering from Penn State University.

Ron served as a Gunner's Mate Third Class in the Navy, having spent most of his active duty aboard a submarine, which traveled all over the world.

Ron was a draftsman and a supervisor during his 37 years at the consulting engineering firm Spotts, Stevens and McCoy, Wyomissing, having retired in 1999.

Ron was a lifelong, active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Pottsville.

Ron was a lifetime member of The Six County Firefighters Association, he served as a volunteer firefighter for many years for the City of Pottsville.

Ron was the current vice president of the Good Will Fire Company No. 4. He also served as the Recording Secretary and Company Trustee for The Good Will Fire Company No. 4. He also served on the Norwegian Township Sewer Authority Board for three years.

Ron loved sports of all kinds, especially his beloved Philadelphia Phillies. For 19 years, Ron was a volunteer coach in the Pottsville biddy basketball league. He was an avid fisherman and loved spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Kathryn "Kit" Kriner.

Ron is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret Marlene George Kriner, Pottsville, with whom he would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary, today, May 24; his three sons, Todd, Lehighton, David, husband of Anita, Lusby, Md., and Dr. Ronald M. Kriner, husband of Maria, Bethlehem; his two daughters, Felicia Funderburk, wife of William, Los Angeles, Calif., and Paula Kriner, Minersville; his sister, Linda Kriner, Pottsville; his eight grandchildren, whom he felt such joy in, Rebecca Louise (Kriner) Devitt, Orwigsburg, Seth and Lindsey Kriner, Lusby, Md., Evan, Noah and Ava Kriner, Bethlehem, Erika Fetterolf, San Diego, Calif. and Claire Funderburk, Los Angeles, Calif.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Third and West Arch streets, Pottsville. The Revs. Harold L. Hand and Peggy Sue Pfeffer will officiate the services. Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Schlitzer-Allen-Pugh Funeral Home Inc., Garfield Square, Sixth and West Market streets, Pottsville. There will also be a visitation from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday the time of the services, in Trinity Lutheran Church. Interment with military honors will be held in Schuylkill Memorial Park, Route 61 South, Schuylkill Haven, immediately following the funeral services. Memorial contributions can be sent to The Good Will Fire Company No. 4, 114 Nichols St., Trinity Lutheran Church, Third and West Arch streets or the Avenues Foundation, 2 Park St., Agricultural Park, all of Pottsville, PA 17901.
