Thomas J. Malloy, 80, of Frackville, died unexpectedly Wednesday morning at his residence.

Born in Mahanoy Plane, he was a son of the late Thomas J. and Helen Dubosky Malloy.

He had been employed as a school teacher in the Pottsville Area School District until his retirement.

Tom was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Frackville, and was active in all church functions and activities.

Tom graduated with a bachelor's degree in education from Penn State University and continued his education at Bloomsburg University, where he received his master's degree in education.

Tom served as president of the local teacher's union and was a former member of the North Schuylkill School Board. He was also an RSVP volunteer, participating in their county wide pen pal program.

Tom was an Army veteran during the Korean Conflict and was active in many organizations including Frackville Lions Club; former Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus; Fr. James A. Hogan Council 2580; life member of Friendship Fire Company, Englewood; Frackville Senior Citizens and Frackville Little League, where he served as manager of the team, Pizza Place.

Tom was also a devout Penn State and Philadelphia Phillies fan, who enjoyed watching the games along side his granddog, Bella.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Sylvia Cooper Malloy, in 1998; and two sisters, Anna T. Malloy and Rosemary E. Wright.

Tom is survived by a daughter, Carolyn, wife of Tony Tenaglia, parents of grandchildren, Matthew Tenaglia and fiance, Shannon Shughart, and Phil Tenaglia, Frackville; a son, David Malloy and his wife, Melissa, parents of grandchildren, David Malloy and girlfriend, Kristyn Rakus, and Abby and Nick Malloy, Frackville. Tom is also survived by a sister, Lorraine Craig, Frackville.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Thomas M. Sullivan Funeral Home, Frackville. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph Church with the Rev. Edward Essig as the celebrant. Interment with full military honors will be held in the parish cemetery, Englewood, Frackville. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
