Betty Jeanne Lucas

Betty Jeanne Lucas passed away peacefully on October 29th, 2012, at the age of 93.

The daughter of George Henry and Amanda Elizabeth Webb, Betty was born July 30, 1919, in the family home in Seymour, Iowa. Betty had one older sister, Eloise.

Betty grew up in Des Moines, Iowa, where she graduated from high school with numerous awards and received a journalism scholarship to Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. Following college, Betty worked for the Des Moines Register and Tribune, where she met her future husband, George Lucas. They were married August 19, 1941. During WW II, George was stationed at Fort Lewis and upon his discharge from the army they settled in Seattle. They later moved to Medina, WA, where they raised their three sons, Stephen, David and Randy.

Throughout her life, Betty was an enthusiastic and prolific writer. She published several romance novels, wrote numerous magazine romance serials and was syndicated in 150 newspapers across the country during the 1940's and 50's.

While raising her family, Betty worked as a secretary at the family church, St. Thomas Episcopal in Medina, and as registrar at Bellevue High School. In 1971, Betty became co-owner of Academic Aids, Inc., with husband George and son Stephen, marketing educational materials for teachers, parents and school districts for over 30 years.

Betty and George were married for 51 years, until George's passing in 1992. During their life together they were avid travelers, and especially enjoyed taking trips and touring different parts of the world with their many friends.

Betty is survived by her sons

Stephen (Sandi), David (Donna)

and Randy (Kari), six grand-children and one great grandson. She will be missed by all.

A private memorial service will be held at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Medina.
