Rev. C. Vedell Emerson

Pastor Vedell died at Virginia Mason Hospital on July 25 surrounded by family. He married Marion Thompson and they enjoyed 61 wonderful years together. They had two daughters, Andrea and Anita. He is survived by Anita Lenges and her husband Peter, and son-in-law Maurice Agol (Marie) and their children, Valentina, Prince and Julianna.

Emerson was born to Verne and Lillian Vedell in Chesterton, Indiana and was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church there. He had one brother, Howard. Emerson served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Europe. After graduating from Indiana University with a degree in business administration, he attended Lutheran Bible Institute where he met his wife-to-be, Marion. He then managed the family fuel and building supply business for several years. Answering a call into ministry, he earned his theology degree from Augustana Seminary, Rock Island, Illinois. He was ordained into the ministry of The Augustana Lutheran Church in 1958. He served as parish minister at Ascension Lutheran Church in Tacoma, WA, Pilgrim Lutheran in Portland, Zion Lutheran in The Dalles, OR, Bethany Lutheran in Seattle, WA, and King of Glory Lutheran in Boise, ID.

Following retirement, he volunteered at senior services and as visitation pastor in several area churches.

A celebration of life service will be held at Advent Lutheran Church in Mill Creek on Sunday, August 11 at 2 o'clock in the afternoon.

A memorial gift in his name may be made to Advent Lutheran Church Classics or a local food bank.
