Carol Elizabeth Kabat Baumann Obituary
Carol Elizabeth Kabat Baumann

Carol Elizabeth Kabat Baumann, devoted wife, loving sister, mom and grandma, faithful friend, passed away on March 3, 2013. With her big smile and genuine interest in everyone she met, Carol fully engaged in life. Born in Livermore, California, in 1932 to Robert and Lillian Larson, Carol grew up in Salinas, California, along with her brother Bob Larson. Carol studied at San Jose State University, then earned her Master's degree at Eastern Washington University. Carol received many outstanding achievement awards during her lifetime and was president of 12 different organizations -- not all at the same time!

After marrying in 1961, Carol and George Kabat had two children, Alan and Ann. She was an incredible mom, putting notes in their lunches, food coloring in their milk on every holiday, and being their biggest fan. During her years in Spokane, Carol was a devoted 2nd grade teacher, then a producer and TV news anchor at KSPS Public Television, where she did "News for Young People" for over a decade.

In Carol's later years, she lived in Issaquah, Washington, marrying Charles Baumann in 2000. They enjoyed spending time with their children, including Carol's son Alan, daughter Ann and family (Adam, Riley and Cassidy), Charlie's son Bill and family (Deepali, Anjana and Nicholas), and daughter Barbara. Carol also loved visits with her extended Larson and Kabat families. She stayed involved in her community through Rotary, University of Washington Retirees, Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumnae, and Coho Run. Carol also engaged in politics, walking, reading, travelling, taking care of their beloved pets, and daily jaunts to her favorite Starbucks!

Carol leaves behind many friends and family. She will be missed dearly and remembered always. A service will be held at University Unitarian Church on Saturday, April 27th at 3:30pm (6556 35th Ave NE, Seattle). Remembrances in Carol's name can be made to The Rotary Foundation (www.rotaryfoundation.org) or to the Eastern Washington University Foundation (http://sites.ewu.edu/foundation/).
